Once you’ve applied for a Medicare Card, it makes you eligible to receive a rebate of medical expenses under the Australian Medicare system when you are treated by a private doctor.

You will be directed to a PDF document which you will need to print and fill out. You will need:
- A postal address.
- Personal bank account details.
Once you have completed your form, you will need to visit a Medicare Centre. Take with you, your form, passport and visa.

An assistant will help you enrol with Medicare; once completed they will give you temporary Medicare details which you can use until your Medicare card has arrived in the post. This takes up to 28 days.
